DFU Mode not working !?!?!?!?

$

Hi,
I have the same problem. It appears on my PC (as 'DFU V3_12_C'), but I cannot copy anything to it. If I right-click on it, I can get basic properties.
If I just switch it on (no >|| key) it appears on my PC as 'DSO' and I can copy to it.
I have tried Windows 7 and Windows XP.
Tried different USB cables and ports.

Please help Image

Calibration and accuracy with 2.72.

There have been reports that the calibration software on the stock software with the 8M 2.72 model is problematic. I can't say for certain as I have the 2M model. What I can say is that the base hw is OK from an accuracy point of view and after calibration gives decent results.

That, of course doesn't help too much with the current inability to run much of the other software properly. Two things might be worth trying in the meantime. There appear to be later versions of the 8M App that may be worth trying. Also the gabonator APP is reported to be largely functional with 8M except when it comes to saving stuff to 'disk'. You could try that at least to prove the calibration was OK.

Calibration and accuracy with 2.72.

With a new Quad Rev 2.72 I am getting VERY bad voltage accuracy – off by 10%-20%, even after calibration (not perfect calibration, I don’t have all the voltages – but close). It is reading off when the probes are grounded – something like 1V-2V on the 5v scale (others are similar). Playing with the calibration it seems like one will work and then others will not. Can’t try the community software due to 2.72. Could this be all in the factory firmware or is it common or is this a bad unit? What accuracy should I expect? I tried a DSO201 and it seemed much better in this respect.
Thanks!

S.O.S. BIG PROBLEM WITH MY BRAND NEW DSO203

Hello. I may have also done the same thing myself recently.
The DSO Quad has provision for a UART. It is accessible via CN7 on the circuit board. It has 6 connections:-
1. 2.8v
2. BT0
3. RST
4. RX
5. TX
6. GND
By connecting BT0 to 2.8v the quad will go into serial upload mode when switched on. (White screen only). Connecting RX, TX, and ground to a suitable serial interface ( I use a ttl to USB device from Ebay ) and connecting that to a PC will allow you to use a program available from the STMicroelectronics website which will let you upload a new bootloader program. Once that is done you will be able to connect the USB cable to the PC and boot the quad into firmware upload mode.(DFU drive appears on your PC).

Have a look at the forum topic "DSO Quad Bootloader corrupted" on this forum for more help.

First couple of things to establish are whether the DFU software is still working and also what model you have.

The DFU / bootloader is the base firmware that supports the start up of the device and also the DFU 'disk' that is used to load new firmware. Normally the DFU/bootloader should not be touched or updated and when loading SYS and APP software they occupy a different part of the memory space. However, it is possible to corrupt it if bad stuff is loaded.

So if you turn it on with the Run (Left) button pressed and you don't get the DFU screen and a drive appearing on the PC USB connection then the DFU has been screwed up. That is not good news but can be recovered by re-flashing using the internal serial connection. Check out this thread viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4628&start=0. It has pointers to other threads that detail how to do this.

If it does get you into DFU mode anyway or when you have recovered it by the serial reflash then the software you load will be determined by whether it is a 2M model or a 8M model.

S.O.S. BIG PROBLEM WITH MY BRAND NEW DSO203

I have been trying for the last week to install the firmware onto my dso203 and in the process have maybe screwed myself by erasing the dso's hard drive.
When I turn it on now I only get a blank screen and and a constant audible tone!!!!!

In the process of trying to install a firmware, my PC's OS prompted me to format the dso in order to fit a too large of a firmware which I now know was the wrong one.
Does anyone know where and how I can find and restore the necessary software including the firmware I was originally looking for or did I just throw $200 in the garbage?

The Chinese website "minidso" was very confusing and incomplete and the translating web page was not that good. After a week of research I found this forum and looks like you all have the brains to help me in proper ENGLISH.

Also was wondering if anyone knows of a better user manual other than the one provided with the unit. I have been trying to record a waveform and play it back on my PC for better viewing, zooming in and storing. Is all that even possible? Barely had the chance to play with it!!!!!

Any help would be sooooo apreciated Image Image Image

New DSO Quad - backup?

$

If you want to get into the development side that is not so difficult and the software itself is not that complicated. The main bit to understand is the relationship between the App and the SYS software. The latter provides a set of calls that the App uses to interact with the underlying hardware.

The github for the community app https://github.com/pmos69/dso203_gcc has some pointers on how to set up a dev environment. First stage is to get to the point where you can rebuild that App from source and be confident that it is linked to normal App memory space.

With that and the ability to load your original App back on then it is pretty risk free to experiment with changing the App code.

In principle one should be able to make changes to the App to make it compatible with SYS 1.6 which supports the 8M version.

Of course it can't be that easy!

I am in the DC (USA) Area if any of the developers are in the area and would like to try the 8M unit.

I also did C development years ago, may be able to help if I got some pointers.

Difficult call. The 2M version will certainly give you instant access to all the other software which is a good thing being much better than the stock sw. The 2M is also not a big limitation as it holds a large number of stored waveforms already.

On the other hand it's nice to have the extra storage and I don't think it is that difficult in principle to support the 8M version. The problem, I think, is that most of the developers of the other software have 2M devices so they have no real means to test 8M support and I guess not so much incentive either.

I suspect it will get figured out but it may take a little while yet.

New DSO Quad - backup?

I am expecting a new DSO Quad via Amazon. Due to the comments I checked that it had the 2M drive on the website, but at this point I'm not sure what I will be getting or if it will ever work with the community software. I paid extra for "latest version", now not sure if that was a good thing.

So normally I would backup a device prior to such "playing around". Is there a way to backup the current firmware from the DSO? It would be best if it could be saved and restored as an image so it could be put back if something goes wrong. I know there is current software available, but the paranoid in my would like to save it "as is". Is this possible?

Also, assuming I do get the 8M 2.72 version, is the thinking that this should just be sent back and the "not newest" version ordered (not sure what version that is), or is the thinking that the experts here will figure it out and the 8M version will become the new "best"?

Is my V3 broken

Hello,

i recently received my DSO Nano V3 and it seems cannot get a decent Signal on the output.
I have tries with the Stock Firmware 4.22 and also with the BenF ( with paches )

If i connect the Probe and Signal Connectors, i do not get a decent signal.
On the BenF-Firmware in the Menu FR, the first four entries ( Freq, Duty, Vrms, Pcnt ) read "xx"

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A program for flashing via serial http://code.google.com/p/stm32flash/

But before anyone goes down that route, what does your vendor respond when you ask about this issue?! You paid for a seemingly broken product, it is not like you should have to open the case and reflash it yourself. Or maybe it just needs a special hex file?

If you are allowed to redistribute those files, I am sure some curious ones would take a look if you attached them here...

But from where did your vendor get these files? He should escalate this issue further upstream. It should not be Benf or people on Seeed forum who should need to sort this out, although many here are happy to help.

Does anyone have a connection at eDesign? Maybe they know something about this new bootloader? At least it seems they wrote it. The question is if they approved its use on the DSO Nano? Anyway someone made these hex files and they must know.

Right, search for "usb ttl" on eBay and you can find them for less than 3 $ (with Free Shipping/Buy Now), including cables. Seeed only sells more specialized usb to serial boards as far as I can see.
Quote: Can do your own as well (e.g. http://roboforum.ru/forum4/topic10592-15.html#p232256 - sorry, it's in Russian). If you use a scope you need other convenient tools, so it's a good investment. You can also consider more complicated tools like BusPirate. Does an awful lot of things but it will take time to learn how to handle it.

Also, there was a piece of software that did *.hex to *.bin convertation. Will try to find it for you - can't remember what's the name of it...
On Linux you can use:
Code:objcopy -I ihex -O binary file.hex file.bin

Anyway, I guess the problem is not the differently formatted hex files, but that eDesign(?) has added some checksum or "certificate" to make sure only their firmwares can be installed. Effectively shooting themselves in the foot, since their firmware is a joke compared to the independent third-party firmware from Benf.

Good job, alf! Glad you got it working, and that my guess about checksums/certification was proven wrong. For your information, BenF's 3.13 version was the last open-source version, there are only minor changes to what's in the git tree on gitorious.

Hello,

I am desperately looking for alf's 3 following posts:
They seem to have vanished from this topic and originally contained the Benf 3.64 .HEX files. Where can I get them?
